How to Create Your Own NSFW AI Companion, Step by Step

By The Fellowi Team · · 7 min read

A person in a knit sweater sits at a wooden desk in a home studio, sketching a stylized character in a notebook beside an open laptop, in soft window light.

The curated legal-age companions are written by us. Sooner or later a lot of people want one written by them: a particular look, a particular temper, a story that nobody else in the gallery quite has. Fellowi lets you build that character yourself and keep it to yourself, or share it. This is the walk from a blank form to the first message, in the order you will meet it.

Step 0: check your plan

Creating companions is part of Premium and the plans above it. On Basic or on the free trial, the creator page shows a locked screen with an upgrade button instead of the form. Each plan also holds a limited number of avatars at once; the product page has the current figures, so we do not repeat them here.

Step 1: pick “Create a fictional character”

Open the creator page. It asks how you want to build the avatar: upload your own photo, or create a fictional character. For a legal-age companion, the second one is the only route. The Adult category exists only there, and that is deliberate: an adult companion is never made from a photograph of a real person. Its face is generated from your words as an original, fictional adult.

Before the form you confirm two things: that this is a fully fictional, AI-generated character and not a real person, and that you accept the publishing rules for creator avatars. Both are short and both matter later, because they are what review holds you to.

Step 2: describe the look

The form asks for a gender, then optional details: hair colour and style, eyes, build, clothing style. Only the gender is required. A name is optional too; leave it blank and one is suggested for you.

Be concrete rather than poetic. “Copper hair in a loose braid, grey eyes, tall and athletic, leather jacket over a black dress” gives the portrait something to hold on to. “Mysterious and unforgettable” gives it nothing, and you will get the average of every mysterious face ever drawn. Whatever you write, the portrait is always generated as an adult, single person, plain background, so it works as a reference for every picture that follows.

Step 3: write the personality

This is the part that decides whether you will still be talking to this character in a month. There are two free-text boxes: personality, and additional details. Use the first for how they talk and behave, and the second for their life: work, city, history, what they want from you.

  • Give them a temper, not a list of adjectives.“Teasing, slow to admit she likes you, gets bossy when she is nervous” plays better than “sexy, fun, caring”.
  • Say what they want. A character who wants something from the relationship leads it. One who only reacts waits for you every time.
  • Put the heat in the character, not in a script. How they flirt, what they are shy about, what they are not shy about. The conversation does the rest.

The text is expanded into a full profile when you submit, with an age, a job and a home city filled in where you left gaps. You can adjust those fields afterwards.

Step 4: choose Adult, then Private or Public

Two rows of chips close the form. Category: Basic or Adult. Adult is what makes this a legal-age companion. It behaves like the curated legal-age set: explicit conversation is in scope and the character may lead it, rather than waiting for you to take it there.

Visibility: Private (only me) or Public. The difference is bigger than it looks.

  • Private is saved immediately, no review, and nobody else can find it or chat with it. If the character is for you alone, this is the choice.
  • Publicputs it in the creators' section of the gallery for other members, and an Adult avatar always goes through review first. An automated check reads the profile; adult content between adults is not a violation, and anything it is unsure about waits for a person rather than being approved blindly. If it is turned down, you see the reason, and you can delete the draft to free the slot and try again.

Public avatars are also how the creator programme works; the rules for that are in how to create and share a companion and how creator rewards stay honest.

Step 5: the first message

Submit, wait for the portrait, and the character is ready. Start the chat and let it open: a new conversation begins with the companion's own greeting. From there it is the same as any legal-age companion, and the advice in how to start a roleplay applies as much to your own character as to ours.

Photos work too, with one difference. A curated companion has a hand-made photo set; yours starts with none. When you ask for a picture, it is generated from the portrait so the face stays the same, and it counts toward your plan's photo allowance, listed on the product page. Every picture it makes is kept for it, so over time it builds its own set. It sends one when you ask, not unprompted.

Changing it later

Your avatars live in Settings, Creator. You can edit the profile text whenever you like, regenerate the portrait a limited number of times, or upload a new one, and publish or unpublish. Two rules to know: an edit to a public avatar sends it back through review before the new version goes live, and you can delete an avatar only while it is private or after it was rejected. Unpublish first if you want a public one gone, since other members may be in the middle of a conversation with it.

What your character will not do

Writing the character yourself does not move the three hard limits. Sexual content involving minors, age-play and non-consent are refused for every companion, including the ones you create, and no wording in the personality box changes that. A character is always an adult, in the portrait and in the chat. If a profile tries to argue otherwise, review turns it down, and in a private chat the companion simply will not follow.

Everything else is yours to decide. If you would rather start from someone already written, the curated legal-age companions are in the gallery, and what uncensored chat means here sets out exactly where the line sits.

Questions this post answers

Can I make an AI character companion that only I can see?

Yes. Choose Private when you create it and it is saved straight away, visible only to you, with no review step. You can publish it later from Settings, Creator, and at that point it goes through review like any public avatar.

Can I base an adult companion on a photo of a real person?

No. The Adult category is only offered for a fictional character built from a written description, and its portrait is generated as an original adult. The photo-upload route always creates a non-adult avatar.

Does my own companion send photos?

Yes, when you ask. A companion you created has no ready-made photo set, so each picture is generated from its portrait and counts toward your plan's photo allowance. Every picture it makes is kept, so a later request can be answered from what it already has.
