An AI Image Generator Without a Subscription

By The Fellowi Team · · 5 min read

A person in a knit sweater sits at a tidy wooden kitchen table in soft morning light, with a cup of coffee and a small paper receipt lying face down beside a laptop whose screen shows a finished misty mountain landscape photograph.

Most people who want an AI picture want one picture. A poster for Saturday, a header for a newsletter, a birthday card that is actually funny. A monthly plan for that is a gym membership bought to climb one flight of stairs: you pay again next month whether you come back or not, and you have to remember to cancel.

Fellowi Images does not work that way. You buy a pack of coins once, each generation spends some of them, and the rest waits for the next time you need a picture. This article is about the practical side of that: what you are paying for, how few steps it is from an idea to a file, and where the arrangement is worse than a subscription.

What you pay for, and what you do not

A coin pack is a single charge. It does not renew, there is nothing to cancel, and the coins do not expire: our terms say so in as many words, and the wallet has no expiry date to run down. A pack you bought for one project is still there for the next one, a month or a year later.

You pay for results, not for attempts that broke. If a generation fails, the coins it cost go back to your balance on their own, with no ticket to open. We wrote up how that works, and where it stops, in what a failed generation costs you.

And what you make is yours to use, commercially too: no separate licence, no credit line, no share of anything you earn from it. The price of each image, the pack sizes and the current prices all live on the product page, which reads them from the code that charges you, so it is right on the day you read it and this article does not have to be.

From prompt to file, step by step

  1. Open the studio and write one sentence. The prompt field comes with a worked example already in it, so you can start by changing it rather than facing an empty box. Quality and aspect ratio are optional; the defaults are sensible.
  2. Press generate. The price is printed on the button itself, so there is no surprise at the end. If you are not signed in yet, the studio keeps your prompt and asks for your email: you get a one-time code, no password, and your prompt is waiting for you when you come back.
  3. Use the trial coins, or top up. A new account usually starts with a small trial balance, enough to see a real result before you spend anything. When the balance is short, the same button turns into a buy-coins button and the pack picker opens right there, with PayPal or a stablecoin. One payment, and you are back at your prompt.
  4. Wait for it. Not instant, and we would rather show you our own measured times than an adjective: they are in how long a generation takes.
  5. Download. The finished image has a download button. That is the file, and from there it is yours.

That is the whole route: one sentence, one button, possibly one payment, one download. No plan picker, no trial that turns into a charge, no card stored for next month.

When a subscription would actually suit you better

If you generate every week, buying packs by hand gets tedious, and for that there is a monthly option: a generation plan that tops up the same wallet automatically, with a first-month bonus and a longer storage window for your files. It is explained in generation plans, explained. It is a convenience, not a requirement, and it is not automatically the cheapest way to buy coins.

The catches

  • Small packs cost more per image. The smallest pack is the dearest per coin, and the price drops as the packs get bigger. If you know you will come back, compare them first: which coin package is the best value walks through it.
  • The refund covers failures, not disappointment. An image that renders correctly but misses what you meant is charged like any other. A clear prompt is the only insurance there.
  • Files are not kept forever. Generated images are deleted after a retention period, which is listed on the product page. Your right to use the picture stays; the copy on our side does not. Download what you want to keep.
  • Nothing is exclusive. Someone else writing a similar prompt can get a similar picture. Generating an image does not reserve it for you.

If those are acceptable, the rest is short. Write your sentence in Fellowi Images, or, if the picture should move, start from Fellowi Video, which runs on the same coins.

Questions this post answers

Do I need a subscription to generate AI images on Fellowi?

No. Coins are sold in one-off packs that are charged once and never renew. A monthly plan exists for people who want an automatic top-up, but nothing in the studio requires it.

Do Fellowi coins expire?

No. Coins you buy stay in your balance until you spend them, and the terms say they do not expire with the passage of time.

Do I pay for a generation that fails?

No. If a generation fails, its coins go back to your balance automatically. What is not refunded is an image that came out fine but is simply not what you wanted.
